The Good

  • In-house tax relief specialists
  • Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) on staff
  • National coverage
  • Responsive customer service

In-house tax relief specialists

Many companies use third party contractors to advise you on your IRS debt.  This means that the company you are dealing with is essentially a marketing firm and has no real accountability to the advice you receive, level of service you get, or the ultimate success or your tax appeal.

Community Tax only uses full-time employees for their tax relief services.  This means that you will be talking to someone who has been fully trained on the best methods.  It also means that the company, Community Tax, is fully vested in the outcome of your tax debt appeal.

Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) on staff

Some tax appeals are fairly straightforward and simply require going through the proper procedures and paperwork for the IRS to consider reducing your tax payment.  However, many tax appeals are quite complicated, and for these, an effective appeal requires the knowledge of a certified public accountant (CPA).  Community Tax has CPAs on-hand for such needs, which can mean the difference between a successful and unsuccessful appeal (if needed, they also have attorneys on staff to help).

National coverage

Community Tax operates in 48 states:  Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Washington, DC, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming

They do not operate in: Alaska, Hawaii

Responsive Customer Service

In a space littered with non-reputable firms, Community Tax is a professionally run organization with multiple consumers citing the professionalism and friendliness of their assigned representatives (called an advocate).  For tax issues, just knowing that there is someone you can pick up the phone and talk to goes a long way.

The Bad

Somewhat misleading advertising

Community Tax advertises heavily online, on the radio, and in print.  We’ve consistently seen ads that say they can help you with any tax issues – and this is true.  But this does not mean they can successfully fix any tax issues.  No one can.  Community Tax is really saying that they can attempt to help you with any issues.  This is the case for any company in the tax relief space, so consumers should keep it in mind.

So just remember that no tax relief company – Community Tax or otherwise – will guarantee a successful reduction of taxes.

The Summary

Community Tax offers a very full breadth of services and is capable of working on virtually any tax issue you could have.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Asset Seizure / Tax Levy
  • Bank Account Levy
  • Can’t Afford To Pay Tax Debt
  • Disagree With Amount Owed
  • Revenue Officer Calling
  • Tax Lien
  • Tax Audit
  • Unfiled Return
  • Wage Garnishment

The biggest negative review of the company is that consumers can work with the IRS directly.  This is true, and if you have the time, knowledge, and patience to do this, it’s definitely an option.  But that’s not a knock on the company directly.

Overall, Community Tax offers a valuable service with well-trained staff so that consumers have the best chance to reducing back taxes or at least knowing that they are on the proper payment plan and strategy with the IRS.
